Contraindications to compression therapy and special situations:
- Absolute: Severe peripheral arterial disease. ABI ≤ 0.6. (ABI: ankle-brachial index). Decompensated heart failure. Acute rheumatoid arthritis. Necrotic tissue. Septic phlebitis. Acute cellulitis (only during acute infection). Extreme leg deformity. Phlegmasia cerulea dolens: massive venous thrombosis, edema and cyanosis.
- Relative: Moderate arterial disease. ABI 0.6-0.8. Sensitivity absent or decreased. Allergy to compression materials. Uncontrolled arterial hypertension. Limb infection.
In those cases where you have a previously diagnosed pathology that may affect the use of a compression garment for the lower limbs, we recommend consulting your health professional before using it.
